Ngā Whetū o Takurua (The stars of Winter) is an interactive planetarium experience. Gaze up at the night sky and learn about the stars from a Māori perspective. Learn how Māori see the skies above as a calendar system that gives us insight into what is happening on the whenua (land) and in the moana (ocean).
Learn about the natural time-keeping system that encompasses the maramataka (Māori lunar calendar), with each new year starting in the depths of winter when Matariki rises.
This show is presented through pūrākau (traditional stories) and practical astronomy. Finish off by flying out to the edge of the observable universe as ancient knowledge connects to modern times.
This is recommended for ages 10+.
