Come along for a community planting along the Waitahurangi Awa at Olympic Park, New Lynn. We’re celebrating Matariki with an emphasis on Waitī, the star representing the freshwater environment.
The native plants we put into the ground will add stability to the stream banks and slow water flow during heavy rain, reducing flash flood impact and helping manage stormwater.
These plants also provide habitat for native wildlife. All ages welcome; children must be supported by an adult. Participants need to wear sturdy closed-toe footwear, ideally gumboots.
Supported by Whau Local Board, Auckland Council Parks and Auckland Council Healthy Waters.
