In this workshop, taught by Rhonda Halliday and facilitated by Chantel Matthews, you will create, through a combination of contemporary and traditional practices, an ipu whenua (land vessel) that explores our connection to the land and what it means to return to whenua.
First, learn basic hand-building skills and techniques to create a small unfired vessel, then personalise it through various decorating, engraving and adornment applications, all the while considering what it means to create a vessel to hold something precious.
Clay is provided, but participants are encouraged to bring pebbles, shells, stencils, muka and wool to make interesting indents.
