Matariki ki Papakura - Kete Waikawa (Sir Edmund Hillary Library)
This year’s Matariki ki Papakura is focused on learning how to make kete waikawa. Kete waikawa is a system of weaving using harakeke which is a natural, strong, durable, recyclable, biodegradable, traditional fibre – a powerful tool in helping to restore the physical imbalance caused by humans within our airways, waterways and whenua. They make ideal shopping baskets and can replace many plastic storage containers.
Two sessions will be on offer: Sir Edmund Hillary Library (Papakura) and Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini – Takaanini Community Hub.
