Ahi Kā
Ahi Kā is a collaboration between Auckland Council and Te Kura Māori o Hoani Waititi Marae to honour the indigenous new year Matariki (or Puanga, as it is known to some iwi) via the mediums of toi Māori (Māori art). Performers from Te Kura Māori o Hoani Waititi, Oratia School and Glen Eden Primary School will come together to perform at the closing, as “Matariki hunga nui” (Matariki brings us together). In between these stellar performances will be displays of taonga puoro (traditional Māori musical instruments), mirimiri (massage), kōrero on rongoā Māori (traditional Māori medicine) and other local performances.
Ahi Kā has been supported by the Waitākere Ranges Local Board for the past four years.
