Kōrero & Kaputī
In historic Bell House, meet Helen Paul-Smith (Tapuika / Ngāiterangi), co-founder of the artisan tea-blending company ŌKU.
Paul-Smith takes us into a sensory world, exploring the flavours and healing properties of native plants in Aotearoa. Many have a rich history of traditional use, helping to maintain wellbeing. Plants such as kawakawa, kūmarahou, mānuka and horopito feature in her teas, elixirs, and balms. Many are hand-harvested from the wild, following strict protocol – ŌKU are conscious of the need to be good kaitiaki (guardians) of the whenua (land).
The talk ends with an ŌKU tea tasting in vintage China teacups. Tickets include entry to the Village.
