Whakahoki means ‘return’, but in the context of this exhibition it stands for ‘recovery’: recovery through arts for our communities. Whakahoki is a community exhibition that embraces this return and recuperation.

Whakahoki will involve Lake House Arts artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and with diverse life experiences – from students through to seasoned professionals – having the opportunity to work with and learn from Natanahira Pona, Lake House Arts toi whakairo, about how aspects of mātauranga Māori (kaitiakitanga, kotahitanga, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and rangatiratanga) and toi Māori can influence their artistic styles to create ‘whakahoki’ – a return and recovery through arts.
