Te Puāwai Weavers at Ōrākei Marae

This public Matariki event is hosted by Te Puāwai weavers at Ōrākei Marae. It will showcase mahi raranga (weaving), kōrero, dyeing techniques, harakeke (flax) harvesting, kite making, whāriki (traditional Māori mats) and tukutuku (ornamental lattice work). Come along and learn about Matariki and how the season relates to raranga (weaving). There will be a demonstration on natural dyeing techniques, and five keynote speakers will kōrero about weaving, their kaupapa (subject matter) and how it relates to Matariki. We will end the day with a hāngī together.
