Celebrating Matariki, the Māori New Year
Come together and celebrate Matariki, the Māori new year, with a fun day the whole whānau can enjoy. This event is an opportunity for our schools, marae and community to come together, displaying whanaungatanga (family unity) through waiata, haka, performing arts, arts and crafts, stalls and wood carving demonstrations.
Join the pōwhiri (welcome ceremony) and blessing at dawn and stay for refreshments and kōrero. There will be food available to purchase during the day as well as hauora (well-being) and environmental workshops.
When: Sat 26 June
5:30–6am: Gathering & pōwhiri
6am–7am: Speeches and blessing ceremony
9am–3:30pm: Matariki celebrations
