Matariki on Screen
Stop by Aotea Square to enjoy a selection of video works on the Auckland Live Digital Stage! Watch short videos highlighting sites of significance to Waikato-Tainui, iwi manaaki for Matariki Festival 2020, as well a series of whakataukii (proverbs) and tongi (prophetic sayings) in connection to Taamaki Makaurau. You’ll see archival footage from Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision, as well as Poi - Hopes and Dreams by Through The Fire, celebrating the visual beauty and symbolism of poi. Opening and closing the selection are two works by Leilani Kake; Toka Te Reo, an evocative artistic response to the challenge of learning te reo Māori, and Wai Ora, an homage to the Waikato river and the heavenly clouds. Please refer to the Auckland Live website for more info on screening times.
