Matariki on Screen

Stop by Aotea Square to enjoy a selection of video works on the Auckland Live Digital Stage! Watch short videos highlighting sites of significance to Waikato-Tainui, iwi manaaki for Matariki Festival 2020, as well a series of whakataukii (proverbs) and tongi (prophetic sayings) in connection to Taamaki Makaurau. You’ll see archival footage from Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision, as well as Poi - Hopes and Dreams by Through The Fire, celebrating the visual beauty and symbolism of poi. Opening and closing the selection are two works by Leilani Kake; Toka Te Reo, an evocative artistic response to the challenge of learning te reo Māori, and Wai Oraan homage to the Waikato river and the heavenly clouds.
