Toi Toi Music presents Te Māra o te Pō
Te Māra o te Pō is a series of four live music events featuring Māori performing artists.
Kiko: This rock and te reo fusion are a fun-loving combo of musicians from well-respected Auckland rock acts, and one that guitarist/singer Rewi McLay happily identifies as a newly formed Māori band. Their song, Ngā Hau e Wha, made it onto NZ On Air’s NewTracks compilation. Kiko will perform one show only at Backbeat, so indulge yourself and embrace your taha wairua.
Cedric Richards McCord: Cedd is a classically trained singer-songwriter from Northland, now based in Auckland. He has performed with professional and community companies in New Zealand and Australia. A self-described musical magpie, Cedd takes musical tidbits from different genres and weaves them together with words to create his songs.
Allana Goldsmith Group: A new project featuring original songs of the jazz and soul genre, written in both te reo Māori and English. This collaboration began in 2018 and has been based on a holistic and eclectic approach to music genres, including elements of folk, country and soul.
WAI.TAI: Robin Kamira and her exquisite musicians make up WAI.TAI, a fusion of world music and Māori rhythms. Expect a journey of genres from all over the Matariki stars and beyond.
