Matariki 09 Festival Programme launch

The Matariki Festival programme was officially launched on Thursday, 25 June at the Aotea Centre, The EDGE.

Guests from Manukau, Waitakere, North Shore and Auckland city councils attended a powhiri and were welcomed with mihi mihi by Takutai Wikiriwhi, kaumatua of Ngati Whatua and Eynon Delamere, Pae Herenga Tangata .

The launch presented the four councils with an opportunity to promote the Matariki events in their region.

Tama Waipara, who is performing in Manukau and Waitakere during the festival, amused the crowd with his waiata pleading to make Matariki a public holiday.

It was a great evening to launch the festival programme.
