Welcome to Matariki Festival 2009

About Matariki 09

Matariki , the Maori New Year,  was celebrated during Auckland's Matariki Festival  from 24 June to 24 July 2009.

The Matariki Festival was jam-packed full of great ways to celebrate Maori New Year. From the Native Noise concert in Auckland Town Hall, to tree plantings at Bastion Point, a sustainability symposium in Waitakere, craft workshops on the North Shore and cultural performance in Manukau, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Matariki is a special time for all New Zealanders to share, a time to come together and celebrate our unique Maori heritage, nature, creativity and expression.

Auckland, Manukau, North Shore and Waitakere city councils worked collectively to present the Matariki Festival through the Maori arts development kaupapa Toi Whenua.

Matariki Festival 09 was proudly supported by New Zealand Post.
