Matariki celebrations at Herons Flight vineyard - To celebrate the rising of the first full moon of Matariki, we have invited the Patea Maori Club to perform here. We will begin at 5pm with a powhiri, a challenge by Kahui Cassidy, a talk about the significance of Matariki, followed by a feast of hangi, and the Kapa Haka Group from Te Whanau O Mahurangi. We are fortunate to have Kahui Cassidy, whose family are foundation members of the PMC, here as a chef. He has helped us to create this unique Maori experience. There will be a market where tangata whenua share their skills in growing, cooking, weaving, wine making, bone carving, and exhibitions of work by Cath Stephenson; Cath Dunsford ; Richard Smallfield; Valerie Sutherland and more. Patea Maori Club come on later in the evening and we expect dancing under the full moon.
