The Mystery of Belonging Here

The arrival of the Matariki star cluster in the night sky is a time rich in symbolism and heritage, inspiring senior photography students of Pukekohe High School to create this exhibition. The students were asked to find forms and shapes, and photograph them in a way that expressed the connection between natural and mythological ideas. Through photography these familiar settings become elusive and mysterious. Embracing the natural world — te ao Māori, the exhibition highlights the kaupapa of the Matariki season with a strong focus on the here and now, on renewal and fresh beginnings.
