Matariki ki Papakura

Nau mai ki te wā whakanui i a Matariki. Experience an indigenous-themed cultural market to celebrate the Māori new year and to revive our connection to maramataka Māori, the ancestral lunar calendar. Ngāti Tamaoho artists will demonstrate whakairo (carving), alongside a photographic exhibition and raranga whatu (woven works). Whiri Aroha, the korowai weavers group will be there, with tā moko (traditional tattoo), raranga (weaving), taonga puoro and uku (pottery) artists also sharing their expertise. Enjoy stage performances from local kapa haka and Papakura secondary school students. Pounamu, tāniko and other art will be available for purchase, as well as poi-making workshops and a demonstration of wahakura. This event is supported by Papakura Local Board and is presented in partnership with Ngāti Tamaoho and Papakura Library.
