Maumahara Flames
In remembrance and celebration of those who have crossed into the star world, Waiheke residents and ferry passengers will witness the lighting of flames visible from the historical areas of Mokemoke and Te Whetu Matarau. These flames will be lit to pay homage to the Matariki star cluster and to mark the end of the festival in a finale that will include a fireworks display and the mass singing of E Pari Rā, a song written 100 years ago in remembrance of our fallen soldiers.
Maumahara Flames will give Waiheke Island residents a chance to experience an indigenous event that celebrates a meaningful moment for their community.
